Description

Experience the delightful crunch of a Sicilian pizza with a crispy crust and creamy ricotta layered over rich tomato sauce and melted mozzarella.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: In a large bowl, pour the warm water and stir in the sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast atop this mixture, allowing it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine ingredients: Gradually add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a rough dough forms, adjusting with water as necessary.
  3. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead it for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it rise: Drizzle olive oil into a greased bowl, place the dough inside, cover with a towel, and let it rise until doubled in size, roughly 1 hour.
  5. Prepare for baking: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Punch down the dough and shape it into a rectangle.
  6. Assemble the pizza: Spread crushed tomatoes on top, seasoning with oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add dollops of ricotta and finish with mozzarella.
  7. Bake to perfection: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot.

Notes

Make the dough the night before for deeper flavor, and consider using an air fryer for a quick cooking option.
