Description
Delightful mini donut bites that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp instant yeast
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1 tbsp melted butter
- Oil for frying
- 1/2 cup sugar (for coating)
- 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a mixing bowl, whisk the warm milk and sugar together. Sprinkle the instant yeast on top and let it rest for about 5 to 10 minutes until frothy.
- Create the dough: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Pour in the frothy yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, kneading for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, covering it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm spot for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Form the bites: After the dough has risen, punch it down gently and roll small portions into balls.
- Fry them up: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry the dough balls for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Coat and enjoy: Toss the warm bites in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon, then cool slightly on a wire rack.
Notes
Make ahead by preparing the dough the night before and refrigerating after the first rise. Explore alternatives like air frying for a healthier version.
