Description

A comforting casserole that combines the rich flavors of caramelized onions with creamy pasta and gooey cheeses, reminiscent of classic French onion soup.


Ingredients

  • 8 oz Pasta (Penne or Fusilli)
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 Onions (Thinly Sliced)
  • 1 cup Beef or Vegetable Broth
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup Gruyere Cheese (Shredded)
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese (Shredded)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (Minced)
  • Salt and Pepper (to taste)
  • 1 tsp Thyme (Dried or Fresh)
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese (Optional for Topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring gently, until deep brown, about 20-25 minutes.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute, stirring frequently.
  5. Stir in the broth and heavy cream, bringing the mixture to a gentle simmer. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme to taste.
  6. Combine the cooked pasta with the onion mixture and half of both cheeses in a large bowl.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and top with the remaining cheese.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes
