Description

A simple and delicious sourdough bread with a crispy crust and soft interior.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and water. Stir until no dry flour remains. Let it rest for about 30 minutes.
  2. Add starter and salt: After resting, sprinkle the active sourdough starter and salt over the dough. Mix until well combined.
  3. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let the dough rise at room temperature for 8-12 hours.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently shape it into a round loaf.
  5. Place the shaped loaf on floured parchment paper and let it rise for another 1-2 hours.
  6. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) with a Dutch oven inside.
  7. Transfer the dough with parchment into the hot Dutch oven and bake covered for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  9. Allow to cool on a wire rack for at least an hour before slicing.

Notes

For a deeper flavor, consider making the dough the day before. Adjust the baking time based on loaf shape.
