Description

Delightfully flaky cheese scones, perfect for brunch or a cozy snack, featuring a rich blend of cheddar cheese and optional savory ham.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1/2 cup diced ham (optional)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Mix together flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheese and diced ham, if using.
  5. Gradually add the milk, mixing just until the dough comes together.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently a few times.
  7. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into wedges or shapes.
  8. Place the scones on a lined baking sheet.
  9. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Serve warm with butter or spreads.

Notes

Keep ingredients cold for best results. You can freeze shaped dough for future baking.
