Description

A vibrant and flavorful homemade Sweet Chili Sauce that perfectly balances sweetness and spice, perfect for dipping and enhancing various dishes.


Ingredients

  • 1 big red bell pepper
  • 12 pieces Bird’s eye chili
  • 1 small yellow onion
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp potato starch/corn starch
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Cut off the tops of the bird’s eye chilis and remove the seeds if you prefer less heat. Coarsely chop them, along with the bell pepper, onion, and garlic.
  2. In your blender or food processor, combine the bell pepper, bird’s eye chilis, onion, garlic, and 2 cups of water. Pulse several times until you achieve a fine chop.
  3. Transfer the blended mixture into a medium-sized pot. Add the sugar, salt, and vinegar, stirring to combine.
  4. Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  5. Once dissolved, reduce the heat to low. Mix the potato starch with 2 tablespoons of water until smooth, then incorporate it into the simmering sauce while stirring constantly.
  6. Allow the sauce to simmer for a few more minutes until it thickens slightly, then remove from heat and let it cool.
  7. Store in a jar in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.

Notes

Customize the heat level by adjusting the number of Bird’s eye chilis used. This sauce is perfect for dipping or as a condiment for various dishes.
