Description

A comforting and indulgent homemade Chicago-style deep-dish pizza with layers of gooey mozzarella, savory Italian sausage, and zesty tomato sauce, all nestled within a golden crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • ½ pound Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • ½ cup pepperoni slices
  • 2 cups chunky tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture along with melted butter to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough begins to form.
  4. On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rest for about 1 hour until it has doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  7. Roll out the risen dough, then press it into a greased cast iron skillet.
  8. Layer mozzarella cheese, crumbled Italian sausage, and pepperoni onto the dough.
  9. Pour the chunky tomato sauce over the toppings and sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
  11. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For best results, let your dough rise properly and don’t overload your pizza with toppings to ensure a crispy crust.
