Description

A rich and decadent German Chocolate Pie featuring a chocolate crust, creamy coconut-pecan filling, and a luscious chocolate ganache topping.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups chocolate cookie crumbs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine chocolate cookie crumbs and melted butter, then press into a pie dish to form the crust.
  3. Bake the crust for 10 minutes, then let it cool.
  4. In a saucepan, combine sugar, evaporated milk, egg yolks, and vanilla. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in coconut and pecans.
  6. Pour the filling into the cooled crust and bake for an additional 20 minutes.
  7. In a separate saucepan, heat heavy cream until just simmering, then pour over chopped chocolate. Let sit for a few minutes, then stir until smooth.
  8. Pour the chocolate ganache over the cooled pie and refrigerate until set.
  9. Slice and serve chilled, garnished with additional coconut and pecans if desired.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate for the ganache.
  • Make sure to let the pie cool completely before slicing for cleaner pieces.
  • This pie can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
