Description

General Tso’s Chicken is a popular Chinese-American dish featuring crispy chicken pieces tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce, often served with steamed rice.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, coat the chicken pieces with cornstarch.
  2. Dip the coated chicken into the beaten eggs.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat and fry the chicken until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes to create the sauce.
  5. Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the pan and drain excess oil.
  6. In the same pan, add the sauce and bring it to a simmer.
  7. Add the fried chicken back into the pan and toss to coat in the sauce.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double fry the chicken.
  • Adjust the level of spiciness by adding more or fewer red pepper flakes.
  • Serve with steamed rice or fried rice for a complete meal.
