- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup milk, warm
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Combine warm milk and yeast in a small bowl; let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt; stir until combined.
- Incorporate the flour gradually until a soft dough forms; knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll the dough into a rectangle; brush with melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over it.
- Cut the dough into 1-inch wide strips; twist and place on a prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk for the glaze; drizzle over warm twists.
Notes
For make-ahead, the dough can rise in the refrigerator overnight. Experiment with different fillings!
